Simple pleasures at Donkey Beach ...

Taking time out to go to the beach is a way of life in St Lucia and hanging out with friends makes it even more pleasurable and fun!

Our friends Charles and Christina know all the secret beaches on the island and one beach they have always mentioned to us is Donkey Beach. So we figured it was about time we made the trip to see what they have been talking about and we were pleasantly surprised by the location and making some new four legged friends ...

What a view!

Before we hit the road to the beach we come across these horses; it was such a pleasure to see them in this stunning natural environment ...

The Albino horse was quite shy ...

But soon wanted some attention.

As soon as I saw this horse I thought of my friend Shirlie who adores horses ... I named this horse Shirlie.

So friendly!

This horse came right up to our car ... I'll make sure I have a carrot or two next time.

We got back on the road down to ...

Donkey Beach

The Beach ... Stunning!

James already making himself at home ...

Christina in the shade ...

Charles decides to dig a big BIG hole! ...

It's gonna be deep!

It's gonna be BIG!

Boys, It's all in the engineering

We need to dig some more ...

Charles is happy!

Digging a hole on a beach, sitting in the sun, swimming in the sea are some of life's simple pleasures. Don't forget to enjoy your life's simple pleasures more often than not ...

The rain is here but the sun still shines!

We recently had the tropical storm Ernesto pass over us here in St Lucia which turned into a hurricane when it hit the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico yesterday, but has now fizzled out. As you can imagine it's always a relief not to be hit but so sad when another community gets the blow. It's the rainy season at the moment so the rain comes and goes and then the sunshines full blast which I love ...

I spent a few weeks in the UK preparing for the Hit Factory show with Shirlie which sadly got cancelled but hopefully there are plans for it to take place before the end of the year so fingers crossed...

During one of the rehearsals I caught up with Sinitta who was as sweet as ever. We shared a dressing room when we both performed in the musical Hair at the Old Vic in London what fun we had ...

It was fun to be in the UK especially in the run up to the Olympics however it's always great to come back to St Lucia! One of my favourite things to do is to wake up early to watch the sunrise and I was lucky enough to catch this sunrise a few weeks ago. I felt so fortune and grateful all at once how beautiful and still amazed at how stunning the world can be ...

Another one of my favourite things this time of year are MANGOES! I just love them there are so many Mangoes on the island that sometimes you're driving along and you see loads of them squashed on the road which pains me every time, but I can't eat all the mangoes right ... oh and by the way I make a mean Mango chutney!

You get some fun and amazing characters on the island and one of my favourite people is Herbert. Herbert is the First Mate on JusSail he always has a tale to tell and a joke to share. He is also great at picking herbs which help with any aliment you might have. His mother was a herbalist and he picked up tips from her by which he still lives by. He also talks about clouds and depending on how they are formed will guide you as to what fish is available to catch & the best time to cut the crops based upon how far passed the full moon you are. He is so wise when it comes to sailing, the ocean and life on a tropical island but has a giggle of a giddy teenager ...

Herbert

Herbert at the Helm on Good Expectation

I'm at last getting my sea legs and moving around Good Expectation like an Olympic athlete (not!) but from a Paddington girl to sea faring gal of St Lucia seas I don't think I'm doing too badly ...

It's a beauty of day right now here's a picture to prove it ...

The Sun is Shining in London Town & I'm Loving the ocean waves ....

The sun is shining in London at the moment and knowing that brings back so many happy memories for me ....
Hanging out on Primrose Hill, strolling into Portobello Road, sitting in a cafe chit chatting with a girlfriend watching the world go by & watching the smiles on peoples faces beaming and the talk on everyones lips of "At last its summer". Enjoy it while it lasts people and may it last for a while!

Life has changed somewhat for me and the days of waiting for the sunshine is over because living out here in St Lucia the sun is always shining and even if it's raining it's still warm... Lucky me hey!

We are surrounded by sea on St Lucia and my new passion and business is the ocean waves and my husband and I are preoccupied with the weather because it defines the kind of experience our guests will enjoy. We have now added another offering to our business ( Jus' Sail ) and that is  Learning to Sail and you can do that in all weathers come rain or shine.

From being an urbanite to a shipmate has not been easy but I'm getting there. I'm learning to watch the waves and see when a gust is coming, noticing the white caps on the sea which means the wind is blowing over 15 knots and generally getting my sea legs aboard Good Expectation. I've also seen Turtles, Whales ... Yes Whales! Manta Rays & the most beautiful colourful fish and one my most favourite things to do is mooring under the Petit Piton and sleeping under the stars ... Bliss ....

And experiencing most beautiful sunsets .....

See you soon London Town .....

Here comes the Sun here comes Sun I say it's alright!

Climb to the top of Pigeon Island ....

Every day I look out my window and I see Pigeon Island and last month James and I finally took ourselves out for a climb up to the top after a friend was surprised to learn we had not done it yet so off
we went ....

When we got to the fort on the island we came across these girls. They were laughing and having so much fun you would never think they were working out ... You go girls!

This is the Jambe De Bois bar on Pigeon Island. It's a lovely place. It's rustic, serves nice food and also hosts Jazz nights .....

There are two beaches on the island and a jetty which allows water taxi's to drop you off for the day

Click here to learn about the history of Pigeon Island the British used it as a fort and look out post and put up a good fight against the French back in day..... It's a great place to visit when your in St Lucia and it hosts the yearly Jazz festival which happens every year in May.

Next stop a hike up the Piton's.

Happy Days!

We love our Turtles .....

Jallim Eudovic is a well known artist on the island. He has travelled to China, Africa and the UK exhibiting his sculpture's. After his long trips away around the world he always comes home to St Lucia inspired to create his next piece of art and most recently he created a beautiful sculpture for Prince William & Kate's wedding as the official gift from the nation of St Lucia, check out his Facebook page for pictures of his wonderful creations.

When Jallim came to visit us while renovating Good Expectation he was keen to contribute in someway so we figured the best thing would be for him to join in with the painting of the hull but he wanted to do something more .....

Originally Good Expectation had some pretty fishes painted on the stern but they slowly faded while the renovations were taking place .....

So we asked him to come up with something to replace them. He went away and came back with the idea of an Amerindian Turtle design.  Amerindians were the indigenous people of the Caribbean also known as the Arawaks & the Caribs.

Turtle's taking shape .....

Stencil on .....

And now he paints.....

We think they look gorgeous our lucky mascots, our Amerindian Turtles steeped in history, in memory of those who got into their canoes to cross the seas to the islands of the Caribbean.

We Love Our Turtles .....

Thanks Jallim!
